“Our full race heads have always been popular with ‘gear heads’ of all kinds, but they were never really designed to be a factory replacement,” says Jeff Brotherton of BRODIX.
“We took a step in that direction a few years ago with our ‘Race-Rite®’ line of cylinder heads, and the new IK 200® design has evolved from that idea.
Our goal has been to develop an affordable aluminum factory replacement cylinder head, and I believe the IK 200 has met those expectations.”
The IK 200 “Iron Killer” cylinder heads have been designed with ease of installation in mind.
Obviously, customers will be drawn to the heads for the same reasons that have made aluminum cylinder heads appealing for years: weight savings and performance advantage. Equally important (and possibly more important in the modern world of $4.00+ per gallon gas prices and an increasingly high cost of living across the board) is the price. The IK 200 will debut as the most affordable high quality aluminum cylinder head on the market with prices starting at just $719.10 per head.
“We’re bringing down the price of making the jump to aluminum heads,” says Brotherton.
“That is what the ‘Iron Killer’ is all about.
There is nothing inferior about the manufacturing process--the IK 200 is poured at the foundry in the exact same manner as our race heads. We have just designed the IK 200 as a very simple stock replacement, which allows our production costs to decrease. Therefore, we can pass those savings on to the customer.”
The IK 200 series of small block Chevrolet cylinder heads feature a 200 cc intake port and standard 64 cc combustion chambers.
The heads come equipped with 2.020 intake valves and 1.600 exhaust valves, and are available in only the straight plug design.
The same A-356 virgin aluminum that is used in every BRODIX cylinder head creates a rugged, durable head that is easily repairable in the event of major engine failure.
Ductile iron valve seats and phosphorous bronze valve guides are used to allow for a lifetime of use with low octane “pump” gasoline.
The “Iron Killer” offers a standard valve cover rail, uses a standard intake and exhaust manifold, and is drilled for stock accessories making the average hot-rodder’s swap out virtually painless.
From an outsider’s perspective, the IK 200 would have to be considered a relatively simple design when compared to some of the more exotic cylinder heads the company works with daily for motor sports applications.
Brotherton begs to differ.
“The street enthusiast and hot-rodder market is one that we consider to be relatively untapped in terms of aluminum cylinder heads.
With that in mind, we have put a lot of research and development into the IK 200 series heads, and we have implemented a lot of the technology that we have gained from our racing programs over the years. While we advertise these heads as a factory replacement, it is absurd to think that you will not see the phenomenal performance advantage that aluminum aftermarket heads will always have over a factory iron piece.”
As such, the IK 200 comes standard with some features generally reserved for race heads, like a competition valve job, CNC intake port matching, and CNC bowl blending, which make the IK 200 powerful from idle up to 6500 rpm in small block Chevrolet applications.
The IK 200 is soon to be another chapter in what has become a book of success for BRODIX Cylinder Heads as the company brings its years of experience to the street rod market.
